24. Behind the Scenes: An Actor’s Journey to UX With Bobby Johnson

Meet Bobby Johnson. A former actor, director, choreographer, hospitality professional, gig worker, and home baker. Bobby found his calling during COVID and transitioned to his new career into UX Design in early 2022.

This is the story of Bobby’s journey into UX Design

Bobby and I met back in 2022. He booked some time with me through ADPList after a panel discussion I participated in. He had recently finished a boot camp and was looking for some feedback on his portfolio.

After learning that he had a lot of prior experience in theater and the service industry, we discussed the idea of taking his previous experience and turning that into a case study.

Not long after that, Bobby came up with his “Cake Study” and posted it on LinkedIn.

Soon, Bobby found his first UX Design role at Cvent, an events and meeting technology company that fit well with his previous experience in the entertainment and service industries.

This week, Bobby joins the show to discuss his experiences and what he’s learned over the last year in his new role.
