I can’t believe another year has come and gone, but here we are! Last year was a wild ride for me professionally and personally. Lots of ups and downs, but I’m excited for another year. Are you ready?
Welcome to 2025, UX fam
I hope your holiday break was exciting. Whatever you celebrate, I hope you did exactly what you wanted to do on your own terms.
I had a fantastic break. Santa Claus brought me lots of fun stuff. I got to spend time with the people I care about the most.
Thanks for your patience over the last few weeks. Thanksgiving was so close to Christmas this year that it threw a bunch of stuff off, and I couldn’t get as many episodes out as I hoped. Plus, we had to say goodbye to our 13-year-old dog, Buster, late last year, and I’ll be honest: I just didn’t feel like doing as much.
I was hoping to write a fun Christmas story this year, but it didn’t happen, so I promise it will happen next year.
That said, I haven’t done an end-of-year recap. So, I decided to do a quick one and talk about what to expect in ’25. Overall, 2024 was great for the show. I was pretty damn consistent with pumping out new shows each week. Listener numbers are up. You all keep listening, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that. I’ve been getting a ton of great reviews on Apple and Spotify. I can’t tell you how much that means to me. Please keep that up!
Also, I hit a huge milestone: I released episode 100, which is amazing. Unfortunately, life happened to me, and I missed the boat celebrating that huge milestone. Whoops!
The Beyond UX Design: Master Your Craft Beyond Pixels and Prototypes came out in paperback! I launched my coaching business. My consulting company, Edge Kase, is doing great. On a personal level, my kids are smart as hell, and they’re doing some awesome stuff at school and at home. I’m the Parent Association President at their school, and I’m also the Den leader for my youngest son’s Cub Scout pack.
All in all, 2025 is looking up. I don’t generally do a ton of New Year’s resolutions or goal-setting. I probably should create more goals, but I’ll be honest. I’m at the point where I’m just taking each day at a time. Overall, I might do some new, different stuff with the show. I’m not sure what that will look like, but I’ve been thinking about some stuff. It’s too early to talk about it, but we’ll see!
One thing I am going to do in 2025 is spend less time on LinkedIn. If you listened to my episode with Hang or heard me randomly say it at different points, LinkedIn and social media generally stress me out. I spent the better part of a year spending way more time on LinkedIn than I care to admit. So I’ll still post a few times a week, but it’ll mostly be to promote the most recent and upcoming episodes. But I’m going to stop spending time checking LinkedIn. So, if you comment or send a message, I might not get back to you as quickly as I have in the past.
I still love you, but sometimes you just have to put you first, you know?
You may also have noticed that I haven’t done a cognition catalog post on Friday in some time. I will definitely get back to it and maybe even add an audio-related component. We’ll see!
Anyway, I don’t have any particularly high hopes for 2025, but I honestly don’t particularly care. I’m totally fine with that. I hope 2025 is as exciting or mundane as you want it to be. I hope you keep listening to the show. I hope you keep telling your friends. And I hope you continue to remember that you’re more than a designer because there’s more to UX than design.
Until next time, happy new year!
